Morven Announces Groundbreaking Ceremony for Future Education Center
December 26, 2016
PRINCETON - Over ten years in the making, the Trustees of Morven Museum & Garden announce they have unanimously approved and will soon break ground on the Stockton Education Center. The building, designed by GWWO Architects of Baltimore, will sit lightly in its landscape and provide flexible program space, a dedicated classroom, and visitor amenities. Below grade, new offices, storage, and mechanical systems will support the entire campus. Another of GWWO's many projects involving a National Historic Landmark property is the highly-acclaimed Interpretive Center at George Washington's Mount Vernon in Virginia.
"The Board of Trustees has been examining its site needs for over a decade," says Board Chair, Robert Wilson. "With greater space, we can fulfill our mission by providing more robust programming on-site; sharing the remarkable history of Morven and its inhabitants, celebrating the cultural heritage of New Jersey, while accommodating much needed expanded back of house space to make these goals possible."
The firm, C. Raymond Davis, with offices in Princeton, has been chosen as general contractor for the year-long project. Construction is expected to commence in early March, 2017.
A groundbreaking ceremony is planned at Morven for Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. All are invited to attend.
