Camillo's Hosts Dinner for Kenya's TropicalClinics April 7, 2010

Princeton, NJ – The need is right now. Every day over 6,000 people in Kenya die from AIDS-related illnesses. Serious shortages of medical supplies, immunizations and equipment at the public facilities in parts of Africa make infant mortality rates 10 times worse in Kenya than in the U.S. One in 19 women does not survive pregnancy or childbirth. Yet experts from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Save the Children USA, and John Hopkins University all say that most of the approximately 2 million newborn and maternal deaths in Africa can be prevented.

TropicalClinics, a Kingston-based nonprofit organization, aims to make a difference in women's and children's health by creating model health care centers in rural Kenya. It is hosting an International Circle of Influence dinner at Camillo’s Café, Princeton Shopping Center, Princeton, NJ on April 7, 2010 from 7 to 10 p.m. to benefit the health of rural women, children and their families in Kenya. To make a tax deductible donation of $100 and enjoy an authentic Italian meal, call 732-331-6859 or visit https://tropicalclinics.org.  Or, a check may be sent to TropicalClinics, P.O. Box, 622, Kingston, NJ 08528-0622.

TropicalClinics has served and treated about 4,000 people, mostly women and children, at its annual medical camps at Kakamega over the past four years. "We have provided prenatal care, prevented HIV-transfer from mother-to-child at birth, treated children with serious infections and protruding stomachs, and provided antiretroviral drugs and counseling to HIV/AIDS patients. We are now renovating a six-room Pharmacy & Treatment Center to strengthen our healing foundation in rural Kenya,” says Margaret Kilibwa, the founder. She believes that thousands of lives will be saved by making medicine, nutritional supplements, and therapeutic care available to women and children every day.

International spokesperson for women and children’s causes, Dr. Wangari Mathai, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, has endorsed TropicalClinics. Of this vital initiative, she says, “ours is a noble cause that will improve the living standards of the rural women and children in Kenya.”
