Keep the Thanks in Thanksgiving!

Author's image

Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  The menu is planned and the house is in some sense of order.   You still have plenty of time to add some meaning to this holiday.  Time to be Thankful!!  Here are a few ideas to stimulate your creativity...

1.  Make a turkey out of construction paper.  It should be fairly big - 12"x12" at least.  Hang the turkey in a prominent place near where you will be eating your feast.  A window, a glass door or a wall will work.  Then cut out a bunch of feathers in different colors.  Ask each family  member to write down what they are thankful for this year.  Then they will hang their feather onto the turkey.  Sometime during the meal, you will read what people have written down.

2.  Using the same concept as above, you can make a wreath of thankfulness.  You can cut-out leaves or pinecone shapes to write your thankful message.

3.  You can cut out a bunch of leaves and write what you are thankful for and then use them as decorations for the table.

My children still insist on us doing this each year.  I now give them the job each year to figure out what our theme will be.  We usually don't say "Thank you" enough so here is a way to encourage one another and what better day then on Thanksgiving!!
