There seem to be mixed reviews about the 83^rd Annual Academy Awards last night, but aren’t there always? Everyone seems to agree on one thing though -- Staten Island’s PS22 fifth grade chorus singing ‘Over the Rainbow’ closed Oscar night on an all time high.  Those kids brought Hollywood to their feet in a standing ovation; How about that.

 Arts education in schools and an inspiring chorus teacher made a dream come true last night. This week you have a chance to do the same in our neck of the woods. Young Audiences New Jersey is holding their annual fundraiser Saturday night March 5^th.   Dazzle 2011: The Wild West Extravaganza at the Princeton Elks Lodge will serve up a Texas style BBQ, dancing, auction and a raffle to win a villa in Tuscany for a week (it sleeps ten and has a pool).  The evening will be a hit for sure.  A contribution to their cause will make our children’s school experience richer and make your heart sing. 

 Studies have shown that there is a correlation between arts education and improvement in academic performance, student attendance and standardized test scores.  Young Audiences, the state’s leading art education provider, gives professional training to help teachers turn classrooms into learning environments, brings artist in residence programs to life and assembly programs to the stage. All of which fuel arts in schools, better academics and the possibility for a moment like last night on the Oscar stage.
