Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Say Cheez is a relatively new spot in town, located right behind Thomas Sweets on Nassau St. As their name suggests, Say Cheez specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches. Most of their menu is different specials and variations of grilled cheeses. You can also build your own sandwich – bread, two cheeses, and sauce for $4.00 and with toppings or proteins (meats or eggs) it’s between $4.50 and $6.00.
The service is great. It’s either a sweet, friendly lady or a couple of laid back guys just hanging out who just happen to be the people taking your order. It’s a nice, relaxed atmosphere that’s never loud or too much to handle.
The grilled cheeses typically are a little greasy, and the bread is crispy but not crunchy. Today, I got a grilled cheese on white bread with American cheese and taco ground beef. It’s definitely a good sandwich – lots of flavor, you can really taste the meat and cheese complimenting each other.
Unfortunately, the portions are not huge, and I’ve never had much trouble finishing the sandwich easily. It’s in the same price range as George’s and Hoagie Haven, but is a smaller serving comparatively. I usually have to get a side or make a quick stop in Thomas Sweets to satiate my appetite. The disco fries, a popular side of fries, cheese sauce, beef gravy, and brisket bits, are always a pleaser. If you find yourself missing the Greek food from Zorba’s, which used to be in that spot, Say Cheez features “Zorba’s Legacy” on their menu, consisting of gyros, kabobs, and falafel.
Princeton University students are rewarded for all their hard work at Say Cheez. The restaurant offers a Princeton Thesis Promo where any student who brings their thesis gets their picture taken and a free grilled cheese. Congratulating Princeton students is their way of giving back to many loyal customers.
Say Cheez is a fun and friendly restaurant and is surely worth a shot if you’re in the mood for a grilled cheese or want to exercise your culinary creative license with all the different combinations you can create. Open until 2:00 AM, it’s a great place to go for late night cravings too.
