What a find!
Good chardonnay is often hard to find, especially under $20. Last winter I was lucky enough to find this new great wine, which was supposed to arrive in March! Well, six months after my discovery and several strikes in France, the wine has finally found its new home here in Princeton, and I couldn't wait any longer to tell you about it.

From Juliénas With Love
In the heart of Juliénas lie 23 hectares of vines that belong to Domaine des Mouilles. Domaine des Mouilles was acquired in 1989 by winemaker Laurent Perrachon, who at that time had just finished his schooling and travels to learn about wine. Since the beginning, Laurent has focused a majority of his energy on innovation; updating the family equipment, increasing the acreage, raising volume, all while maintaining quality and tradition as the focal points of his winemaking. He has even become the President of the Juliénas appellation, acting as a spokesperson for the appellation's tremendous quality in red, white and rosé wines.

Perle Blanche
Laurent Perrachon and Domaine des Mouilles belong to a group known as Vigneron Indépendant. This is a group of winemakers whose purpose is to represent high-standards in the wine-making process. They are responsible professionals that are, above all, respectful of tradition. It is in this tradition that Laurent farms sustainably, harvests by hand and uses traditional Burgundy wine-making techniques.
Made from 100% chardonnay, but known locally as Perle Blanche (white pearl), the wine is made from twenty-year old vines that are planted in siliceous-clay and limestone-clay soils. A beautiful gold tint beams from the glass, and a floral nose of white blossoms create a lasting first impression. This is a lighter style of chardonnay, fresh and mineral, with touches of lemon curd and citrus. The finish is crisp and clean, with wonderful minerality. This is a great wine on its own or served with fish or poultry.
