PRINCETON’S HOTTEST CHEFS COOK TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER IN PRINCETON AND ACROSS AMERICA

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Princeton Hosts 19th Annual Culinary Event on April 11, 2011

(PRINCETON, NJ) — Princeton’s hottest chefs, restaurants, and mixologists will gather for Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation®, the area’s premier culinary benefit. Taste of the Nation Princeton will raise critical funds needed to support Share Our Strength’s® efforts to end childhood hunger in Mercer County.  This year’s event will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at The Westin Hotel at The Forrestal Village in Princeton from 6pm to 9pm.

Some of the area’s finest chefs and restaurants will participate in the gastronomic event.  Participating restaurants as of March 17 will include Anton's at the Swan, Automatic Brewers & Coffee Devices, Bon Appetit Fine Foods of Princeton, The Brothers Moon, Brown Forman, The Cranbury Inn, Donna & Company, Emily's Cafe & Catering, Eno Terra, The Frog and The Peach, The Grape Escape, Griggstown Farm, Jen’s Cake & Pastries, Jones Two Enterprises, Karsay Coffee, Makeda Ethiopina Restaurant, McCaffrey's, Mercer County Community College, Olsson's Fine Foods, Palate, Palermo Bakery, Parallel 40, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Salt Creek Grille, San Pelligrino, Tre Piani, Triumph Brewing Company, Unionville Winery, Yankee Doodle Tap Room, WJ Deutsch & Sons, Ltd, Zone 7.

“We’re honored to be part of this nationwide movement to end childhood hunger in America,” said Joanne Meehan, event chairperson. “For nearly 20 years we have been able to showcase some of the finest culinary talent in the area to help the children in our community who suffer from hunger every day.”

Area charities that will benefit from this year’s event include Mercer Street Friends, Isles, HomeFront and Food Bank of South Jersey.

With nearly 17 million children facing hunger in America (that’s almost one in four), Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation is more vital than ever. The event raises funds to end childhood hunger in America by ensuring that at-risk children and their families have reliable access to enough nutritious food to thrive. Funds raised through Taste of the Nation events support No Kid Hungry, Share Our Strength’s campaign to end childhood hunger in America.

“An end to childhood hunger in the United States is within reach,” said Bill Shore, Founder and Executive Director of Share Our Strength. “With all the participants in Taste of the Nation Princeton sharing their strength, we are creating more resources to help the children of the Princeton area and our great nation get the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives.”

Last year, Taste Princeton donated $36,692.75 that went towards a variety of services offered through the aforementioned beneficiaries.  Mercer Street Friends Food Bank packed backpacks filled with kid friendly and nutritionally sound food; HomeFront helped feed the families in their shelter 3 times a day for 3 weeks; Isles helped plant community and school gardens to transform toxic spaces into beautiful, clean and educational places; and Food Bank of South Jersey used the funds for Kids Café, a program that feeds children throughout the year, and Cooking Matters, a nutritional education program that connects low-income families in a fun way.

Taste of the Nation Princeton is nationally sponsored by American Express, Sysco, Food Network, Brown-Forman Corporation, and S.Pellegrino Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, and is locally sponsored by Nassau Broadcasting, Packet Publications, and Princeton Magazine. One hundred percent of ticket sales support Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger in Mercer County.

Tickets for Taste of the Nation Princeton are $85 and can be purchased by calling 1-877-26-TASTE or visiting TasteOfTheNation.org.  Please note, this event is open to individuals who are 21 and over.
